The University of Hawaii Board of Regents has extended the deadline to apply for its soon-to-be-open Hawaii County seat.
The five-year term begins July 1. The seat currently is occupied by Douglas Shinsato. Shinsato was appointed in August to serve for the remainder of the term after it was vacated by the late Barry Mizuno.
UH previously accepted applications through October but announced Wednesday it was re-opening recruitment.
The new application deadline is Jan. 31.
Board members serve voluntarily and are not paid. Candidates also must reside in Hawaii County.
