A high surf warning means there is a threat to life and property from the surf.
North shore surf is forecast to build up to 25 feet tonight, then up to 30 feet tomorrow. The highest threat will coincide with the high tides, which occur at 4 p.m. today and 5:30 Wednesday morning.
Hawaii County Civil Defense advises oceanfront residents and beachgoers along the affected shores to be on the alert for high and dangerous surf.
Boat owners and oceanfront residents should take action to secure their property before nightfall.
Closures of roads and beaches may occur without notice.
A high wind advisory means objects that are outdoors should be secured and caution should be taken if driving.
Trade winds are forecast between 20-35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour through tonight. The highest winds are expected for the areas of Kawaihae, Hawi, Keahole North Kona, South Point, and Cape Kumukahi. Other areas may also experience high winds and power outages may occur.
