West Hawaii Community Health Center, in partnership with Donkey Mill Art Center, is hosting its third annual Art Is Healing multimedia juried art exhibition as it works to continue building a permanent collection of art for the health center locations throughout West Hawaii.
The Art Is Healing initiative brings together the power to bridge differences and connects individuals of different backgrounds and experiences. Through art, West Hawaii Community Health Center wants to make connections by sharing stories and sharing individuals’ truth, building empathy, compassion and a healthy respect for one another.
Interested artists are encouraged to interpret and explore the concept of Art Is Healing and can submit pieces from all disciplines in visual arts including wood, fiber, clay, metal, drawing, painting, prints and photography. Artists are limited to two submissions and each art piece must include a completed entry form with description and signed agreement.
This year, Art Is Healing will be juried by photographer Laurel Schultz, whose work explores fragments and figments of the natural world as a lens on human nature, and journeyman artist William Wingert, who paints on location at his Kainaliu studio and hosts life-drawing sessions there every week.
Entry submission deadline is Sept. 8. All artwork must be hand-delivered between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to West Hawaii Community Health Center Kealakehe, 74-5214 Keanalehu Drive.
