Volcano Art Center’s 2017 Jazz in the Forest summer series continues at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Saturday with a tribute to French-Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt at the Niaulani Campus in Volcano Village.
The performances will highlight compositions of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s by Gershwin, Porter, Berlin and others of the Tin Pan Alley era, as well as French pieces by Django and other Hot Club of Paris contributors.
Musicians will include Greg Shirley on his “grande bouche” guitar and vocals, Hal Glatzer on rhythm guitar and vocals, Jerry Dicey on acoustic bass and Jean Pierre Thoma on the Sidney Bechet-styled soprano saxophone.
The Wine and Beer Room will be open for attendees to enjoy before and after the concert, featuring Volcano Red Ale and Mauna Kea Pale Ale from Mehana Brewing Co. and pupu by ‘Ohelo Café. An area will be set aside for dancing.
Tickets for both shows are $18 for VAC members, $20 nonmembers. Tickets are available online at volcanoartcenter.org/events/registration-workshops-classes or VAC’s administration office in Volcano Village and VAC Gallery in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
The last day to purchase tickets online or at the VAC Gallery is today. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door if available.
