Groups honored for Mauna Kea preservation efforts
The Historic Hawaii Foundation honored the Office of Maunakea Management with a 2017 Preservation Commendation Award during its recent 43rd annual Preservation Honor Award Ceremony.
The foundation’s awards are Hawaii’s highest recognition of preservation, rehabilitation, restoration and interpretation of the state’s architectural, archaeological and cultural heritage.
The 2017 Preservation Commendation was presented to OMKM; Maunakea Management Board; Kahu Ku Mauna, a volunteer council comprised of Hawaiian cultural resource persons who serve as advisors; and Pacific Consulting Services Inc. for outstanding preservation efforts related to the Long-Term Historic Property Monitoring Plan for University of Hawaii Managed Lands on Maunakea.
HFSFCU accepting donations for isle hospice providers
To show its 80-year commitment to community support, all six branches of HFS Federal Credit Union are accepting donations through June 17 for the Big Island’s three nonprofit hospice providers.
“Supporting our local organizations and charities that do so much for our communities is not only an integral part of the credit union philosophy, ‘people helping people,’ but it’s also a small way for us to say mahalo for everything they do,” said Ashley Yamamoto, HFS Federal Credit Union marketing coordinator.
For more than 30 years, residents of Hawaii Island have found compassion and care from Hospice of Kona, North Hawaii Hospice and Hospice of Hilo. The cost of delivering the care the community needs often exceeds the reimbursements received from insurance companies.
It is through the generous donor support that vital services, such as palliative and end-of-life care can continue.
