The skinny: UH-Hilo first baseman Phillip Steering was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District baseball team.
A junior from Lake Forest, Calif., Steering is one of 10 players named to the team from the NCAA Division II West Region, and Steering is eligible for Academic All-American consideration later this month. UHH has never had a CoSIDA Academic All-American in any sport.
Majoring in business, Steering carries a 3.64 grade point average and he leads the PacWest in batting average at .420 and in on-base percentage (.542).
