Don’t look now, but Ka’u boys basketball team isn’t just in the thick of the BIIF playoff race – it’s now tied for the final spot.
Joven Padrigo scored 14 points and Andre Carvalho added 10 as the Trojans beat Pahoa 43-35 on Wednesday night at the Daggers’ gym, moving into a tie for fourth place in Division II with St. Joseph.
Padrigo made two 3-pointers and Pete Dacalio and Jacob Flores each had six points for Ka’u (3-8), which finishes its regular season Saturday with a game at Hilo High.
The Cardinals (3-8) lost to Honokaa 78-39 on Wednesday at home and finish with a tough finale at home against Kamehameha on Saturday.
If Ka’u and St. Joe finish with the same record, the Cardinals will host a BIIF play-in game.
Ryan Tatasi scored 16 points for Pahoa, which finished a rebuilding season 1-11.

Calvin Mattos scored 19 points, Shaun Kojima chipped in with 12 and Treyson Ishimoto had 10 as the host Warriors eliminated the Waveriders from postseason contention, securing the final Division I playoff slot for Keaau.
Bryton Lewi and Abraham Kalavi each scored 12 points for the Waveriders (5-6), who miss the playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Kamuela Spencer Herring scored 21 points, Kelvin Falk added 20 and Kea Callihan had 19 for the Dragons (8-3), who snapped a two-game losing streak and remained in a first-place tie with HPA atop Division II.
Ruka Suda led the Cardinals with 15 points.
Honokaa finished the regular season Saturday at home against Kealakehe. HPA host Keaau on Friday in its finale.

Brittany Shimono scored 21 points and Mikayla Kekoa added 13 points and 10 rebounds, but the BIIF runner-up Cowgirls (6-7) lost a Division II first-round game at Farrington High on Oahu, falling into consolation game against Lanai at 3 p.m. Thursday at Kalani High.
No. 2-seeded Kamehameha, the BIIF champion, meets Moanalua at 5 p.m. Thursday in a quarterfinal at Farrington. Moanalua beat defending champion Hawaii Baptist 50-47 in overtime in the first round.
Shimono was 6 of 11 from the field, but Kohala shot only 22.2 percent for the game, inlcuding just 2 of 21 in the first half.
