An East Hawaii woman accused of voter fraud entered a no contest plea Monday as her trial started in Hilo.
Tiffany Edwards Hunt was charged with the Class C felony for being registered to vote in a separate County Council district than where she lived.
That became an issue in the council District 5 race in 2014 when she was a candidate. By then, she had changed her address to the proper district.
Attorney Brian DeLima, whose office represented Edwards Hunt, said the plea resulted in the dismissal of the charge. She still has to pay a $500 fine for an election violation, he said.
Edwards Hunt said she was happy to pay the fee rather than “keep fighting it on principle and potentially bankrupt my family.”
