Firefighters and a hazardous materials team have responded to the Puna Geothermal Venture for the second time within four days.
According to a written Fire Department statement, six teams responded to a 2:52 a.m. report today of a possible explosion and gas release at the geothermal power plant near Leilani Estates subdivision with the first unit arriving at 3:06 a.m.
An employee told firefighters that there was no explosion but steam was released.
According to the statement, PGV’s perimeter, adjacent subdivisions and downwind properties were monitored with negative readings.
No evacuations were ordered and fire teams returned to quarters by 6:40 a.m.
