HONOLULU (AP) — A state agency has fined a Honolulu hotel for a New Year’s Eve fireworks show launched from state land.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources recommended a $1,000 fine for the Kahala Hotel & Resort.
The agency also sought $500 for administrative costs and $550 that would have been charged to launch the display from a spit of state land that fronts the 338-room hotel.
The agency says the hotel didn’t know it needed a state permit.
A California fireworks company obtained a city fireworks permit.
A spokeswoman for the hotel, Dara Lum, declined comment.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources board accepted the recommendation Friday and the hotel agreed to the penalties.
