The 18th annual Big Island Woodturners Exhibit at Wailoa Center came to a close March 31 with more than 2,000 visitors throughout the month viewing the display of 150 finely turned bowls and objects from local and exotic woods.
Visitors were asked to cast a vote for their favorite turning and at least 1,200 submitted ballots. When the votes were tallied, the People’s Choice Award winner was No. 40, “My Affair with a Long Legged Beauty,” made from Cook pine and Blackwood by Doug Leite. This turning also was awarded the Turner’s Choice by the members of the Big Island Woodworkers Club.
Codie King, Wailoa Center executive director, congratulates and thanks Leite and all the club member for making this year’s exhibit a success. Next year’s exhibit will feature the work of woodturners from throughout the state to help celebrate Wailoa Center’s 50th anniversary year.
