Wailoa Center’s Hawai‘i Nei 2015 exhibit, which began Nov. 6 in celebration of the native species of Hawaii Island, attracted more than 2,200 visitors before closing Dec. 18.

During its 31-day run, visitors were asked to vote for their favorite work of art in the adult and youth divisions. When the votes were tallied, there was a tie in the adult division. Sharing the People’s Choice Award honors were entry No. 420, “Kinolau,” a painting by Dominic Tidmarsh, and No. 342, “Vanessa Tameamea,” a Norfolk pine vessel by John Mydock.

The youth division People’s Choice Award went to “Honu” by Ruku Suda, an exchange student at St. Joseph High School.

Gallery director Codie King congratulates all the artists who participated in Hawai‘i Nei 2015. The next exhibits open Jan. 8, with a reception for the artists from 5-7 p.m. “Honoring Our Ancestors” will be displayed in the Main Gallery and “Mathemagical Mandalas” in the Fountain Gallery.
