A 38-year-old man accused of slaying his disabled landlord more than three years ago in Puna pleaded not guilty Monday to the killing.
Hilo Circuit Judge Greg Nakamura ordered Jason Russell Jump to appear for trial at 9 a.m. April 4.
Jump is charged with second-degree murder for allegedly bludgeoning 54-year-old James V. “Jimmy” Johns, a 54-year-old wheelchair user, to death in a toolshed Dec. 16, 2012, on Johns’ Seaview Road property in Nanawale Estates.
Jump, who reportedly told psychologists hip-hop mogul Jay Z possessed his body at the time of the fatal attack, previously was found unfit for trial, but then was found fit last month.
Jump is in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $250,000 bail.
