Kizzah Maltezo scored nearly half of Honokaa’s points Tuesday night with 20, and the Dragons finally gained some breathing room in the fourth quarter to win their BIIF girls basketball home opener, 41-31 against Kealakehe.
In a game that was tied at the half, Tara Kekuaokalani helped the Waveriders (0-2) stay close with eight points.
The Dragons improved to 2-0.
Honokaa won the JV game 49-11.

Keaau 51, Ka’u 26: Hunter Muranaka led the way with 20 points and Valerie Pertubal had 13 as the host Cougars evened their record at 1-1.

Pahoa (0-2) scored six points in the opening quarter, but just five the rest of the way.
April Caponia led Pahoa with five points.
