Hospice of Hilo is celebrating the holiday season by lighting up the Trees of Remembrance at its 26th annual Light Up a Life.
The trees are on display from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. until Dec. 24 at the two entrances of Macy’s at the Prince Kuhio Mall.
“Everyone is invited to place a commemorative ornament with the name of a loved one on the tree,” said Hospice of Hilo spokeswoman An Umamoto. “The ornaments are a very meaningful way to pay tribute to those we remember and love.”
This year, Hospice of Hilo asked the Hoke family to place the first ornament of the season on the tree in memory of Arthur Hoke, who received hospice services.
“I feel blessed and honored that our family was chosen to start this year’s Light Up A Life campaign,” said Arthur Hoke’s wife, Julia. “Hospice of Hilo has been a tremendous support for my family through the process of Arthur’s passing and continues to give us support and love today.”
Light Up a Life is a community fundraising event for Hospice of Hilo’s programs. There is a suggested $10 donation for creating and hanging an ornament, however, no one will be denied the opportunity to honor a loved one. For more information, call 969-1733.
