Historic Kailua Village once again will be transformed for the holidays with the addition of Kailua Kalikimaka banners, brightly colored holiday décor for the season and a sleigh full of holiday events bringing cheer.
Kailua Village Business Improvement District, which encourages everyone to shop, dine and buy local, begins the festivities at 5:45 p.m. Friday with free live entertainment and the lighting of the Christmas tree at Emma’s Square.
The festivities continue Dec. 5 with a family movie night at Kona Commons. At 5:30 p.m., enjoy the free classic holiday movie “Polar Express,” popcorn and Santa, too. Don’t forget to bring chairs — but no coolers.
Buy local at Kokua Kailua on Dec. 13 when Alii Drive becomes a pedestrian-only mall. There will be free Hawaiian music at 4 p.m. at Hulihee Palace and a Hawaiian holiday concert from 5-6 p.m. with award-winning musician Mark Yamanaka.
After the concert, the Lighted Boat Parade in Kailua Bay starts at 6 p.m.
