Hawaii Volcanoes National Park announces the upcoming flight plans for October:
• From 6-10 a.m. all Tuesdays during October, depending on weather and project needs, for ungulate surveys and control work in Kahuku between 3,000- and 7,000-foot elevation.
• From 6-8 a.m. Oct. 19 for petrel monitoring from the summit of Kilauea to Mauna Loa at about 9,000-foot elevation.
• From 10-11 a.m. Oct. 19 from the Volcano agricultural station into ‘Ola‘a Tract to transport supplies to support ungulate control work.
• From 6-8 a.m. Oct. 26 for petrel monitoring from the summit of Kilauea to Mauna Loa at about 9,000-foot elevation.
• From 8 a.m.-noon Oct. 27-29 to transport fence materials to the boundary of Kahuku and Kapapala Forest Reserve.
• From 6-10 a.m. Oct. 29-30 for ungulate surveys in Kahuku between 3,000- and 7,000-foot elevation.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors. Dates and times are subject to change based on aircraft availability and weather.
Management of the park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources and maintain backcountry facilities.
