As part of the Palace Theater’s “comfort campaign,” the Palace now offers a limited number of “supersize seats.”
The theater board was concerned that many potential patrons were unable to attend popular concerts and other events because they could not sit comfortably in the current seats. The new seats are being installed in the general seating area of the theater and each seat is rated to support up to 1,000 pounds.
“It was a challenge to get a mainland distributor to ship the super-sized seating to the Palace Theater,” said Wendy Peskin, Palace board of directors president. “Irene Agasa of Agasa Furniture helped get the chairs we wanted by having them shipped to her store. We are very grateful for this help as it now allows us to accommodate patrons who otherwise might not attend our events.”
At this time the Palace has only three seats installed so patrons needing the larger seats, or wheelchair access, are advised to notify the box office in advance.
“Visit the Palace website for updates on the plans to make the Palace Theater a more comfortable venue for patrons and performers,” said executive director Morgen Bahurinsky.
The theater recently installed a large duct to bring in fresh night air to the theater. Plans are underway for installing photovoltaic panels to lower electric costs so that actual air conditioning can be installed.
