The University of Hawaii at Hilo’s College of Continuing Education and Community Service is offering a two-day introductory workshop on Geographic Information Systems from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. July 30-31 in the UH-Hilo GIS Computer Lab, Room K274.
The cost is $600 and includes a textbook and student GIS software. Tuition for applicants who qualify for Employment &Training Fund funding through the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations is $350. For more information, visit labor.hawaii.gov/wdd/home/employers/etf.
The class, Foun-dations of Geographic Information Systems, will introduce participants to the concepts and applications of GIS, one of the fastest-growing technologies in the U.S. The workshop will cover conceptual and practical applications and analysis of spatial information using the ESRI ArcGIS suite of applications.
Instructor Michelle Shuey will provide a hands-on introduction to ArcGIS 10.x, including spatial data structures and sources, spatial tools, spatial data display and query, map generation, and basic spatial analysis using ArcGIS software. Basic computer skills and a 4GB+ USB drive are required.
