HONOLULU (AP) — A Navy helicopter team has joined the search for a 17-year-old hiker who’s been missing in Hawaii for nearly a week.
A group from the Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron joined the search for Daylenn “Moke” Pua at the request of the Federal Aviation Administration.
The Navy searchers use infrared and other tracking technology. They’re based in Kaneohe at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Pua has been missing on Oahu since the evening of Feb. 27 after he went hiking alone north of Honolulu.
The Navy will be searching along the ridgeline above the Haiku Stairs, a steep hiking trail. The area, also known as Stairway to Heaven, has an elevation of 3,150 feet.
