Waiakea’s cheerleaders produced a Big Island Interscholastic Federation record score with their routine Nov. 5 at Keaau High to win the league championship.
The Warriors (328.75 points) won BIIFs for the first time since 2011, unseating two-time defending champion Keaau (276), which finished runner-up.
Both squads advanced to the Hawaii High School Athletic Association championships, which will be held Saturday in Honolulu and will be televised on OC16. Hilo (269) placed third at BIIFs, Kamehameha (254.5) was fourth and Kealakehe (204.5) was fifth.
