Kamehameha Avenue closing Wednesday night

Kamehameha Avenue on the Hilo Bayfront between Ponahawai and Pauahi streets, and Kumu Street, will be closed to motorists and pedestrians Wednesday at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Thursday for nighttime work, weather and construction conditions permitting, according to the county Department of Public works.

Access to Mooheau Bus Terminal and downtown Hilo will be through Ponahawai Street. Special off-duty police officers will be redirecting traffic and message boards will be posted alerting motorists of the road closure.

Bayfront Highway and the Pauahi Street intersection will remain open.
