HONOLULU (AP) — The Honolulu City Council is onboard with a more than $2.1 billion operating budget that’s about $5 million less than the one presented by the mayor.
Wednesday’s vote was 8-1, with Councilman Breene Harimoto casting the “no” vote.
Mayor Kirk Caldwell said he intends to sign the operating budget and spending bills even though the council rejected or altered most of his proposals.
Harimoto objects to adding about $3 million to the fund that gives grants to Oahu nonprofits.
The operating budget and nearly $701 million package avoids tax increases for most residential property owners, a fee for curbside garbage pickup and advertising on the sides of buses.
