LOS ANGELES (AP) — Coroner’s officials say the Transportation Security Administration officer who was killed at Los Angeles International Airport died two to five minutes after he was shot.
Assistant Chief Ed Winter says the autopsy report isn’t finalized, but the detail was released Wednesday after pressure to clarify when TSA Officer Gerardo Hernandez died.
Two law enforcement officials say Hernandez didn’t receive aid until 33 minutes after a gunman opened fire in Terminal 3 because the area wasn’t declared safe for paramedics to enter. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.
Los Angeles officials are looking into the response to the Nov. 1 shooting and whether it hampered medical aid.
The two law enforcement officials say officers subdued the gunman in about five minutes.
