“Mele Kalikimaka” will be the official theme of the 26th annual Christmas Craft “EG”stravaganza at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multipurpose Stadium will be held, as always, the weekend before Thanksgiving. This year’s event will be on Friday night and Saturday.
Everyone is invited to join in the festivities at Hilo’s premiere craft fair inside the stadium and enjoy outstanding crafts from throughout the state of Hawaii and California, ono food, festive music, fun games and more than $2,000 in handcrafted door prizes.
A Big Island tradition, the “EG”stravaganza features over 100 different artisans from all corners of the Big Island, more than 30 crafters from off-island and a few special crafters from California.
After 26 years of producing craft fairs, EGstravaganza promoter Evelyn Garbo still enjoys creating her holiday gift to the community: “Over the years, the EGstravaganza has become not just a craft fair, but a time to revisit childhood days of games and songs and happy times with friends and family just before the frenzy of the holidays.”
With the recent renovation of the Stadium earlier this year, even more booths will be offering holiday goodies, including a special Edible Gifts section with free food sampling, across the food booths in the lobby.
Door prizes will be given away throughout the two days of the “EG”stravaganza. Trivia buffs will enjoy the myriad of trivia questions and returning shoppers have a chance to be a Mystery Shopper. The Christmas Scavenger “EG”spedition is fun for the whole family and benefits the entire community.
Vendors will display edible scavenger items, which will be donated to the Food Basket directly after the show. Everyone is invited to bring a can of food to donate to the Food Basket to help our neighbors in need over the holidays.
Fair hours are from 5-10 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. There is a $2 admission charge for those 12 years and over, but the last hour before closing each day will be free for last-minute purchases and pick-ups.
