More free fruity fun is planned for 2014, with dates finalized for two annual community festivals celebrating island-grown agricultural commodities. The eighth Hawaii Avocado Festival is set for April 5, while the sixth Mango Festival is slated for July 26, according to organizer Randyl Rupar.
Both Saturday events will be staged from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay. Event festivities include educational displays on growing the delicious fruits; recipe contests; arts, crafts and food booths; healing arts; and a full lineup of performing arts.
Recipe and vendor entry forms will be posted a month prior to the zero-waste events at www.avocadofestival.org and www.mangofest.org.
For information, contact Rupar at 936-5233. Hawaii Avocado and Mango Festivals are sponsored by Sanctuary of Mana Kea Gardens, Hawaii Tropical Fruit Growers-West Hawaii and Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay.
