Aloha Performing Arts Company artistic director Jerry Tracy will portray his fellow Missourian, Samuel Langhorne Clemens, in “Mark Twain Rides Again” for a limited engagement at the Aloha Theatre in Kainaliu Nov. 22- 24. This year, the show features new material from Twain’s autobiography, as well as an interview with a special mystery celebrity guest in the second act.
“Mark Twain Rides Again” is a quasi-historical account of Twain’s visit to the Big Island in 1866, and follows him from his arrival by ship in Kailua, along his epic mule journey through Kona and Ka‘u, to his exploration of Kilauea Volcano.
Humorous anecdotes along the way include observing nude female swimmers, attempting to surf, visiting Kealakekua Bay, and a dubious account of the origin of the Mark Twain Monkeypod Tree in Waiohinu. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and the Sunday matinee is at 2:30 p.m.
