A Kealakekua man has been arrested and charged in connection with an Oct. 28 burglary in Holualoa, police said.
Detectives recovered jewelry from a second-hand shop in Captain Cook belonging to the three victims. They also recovered jewelry that had been taken during two additional burglaries in Holualoa on Sept. 1 and Oct. 7.
After obtaining the identity of the person who had sold the jewelry to the second-hand shop, police arrested 32-year-old Mathew Robert Kaleo Malapit of Kealakekua on Wednesday.
On Thursday, detectives charged Malapit with first-degree burglary and five counts of second-degree theft. His bail was set at $15,000. He remained at the cellblock until his initial court appearance on Friday morning.
