Powerhouse Pearl City claimed the state boys’ and girls’ team and individual bowling championships Friday on Oahu.
The two-day tournament was held at Hickam Bowling Center.
Pearl City (8,748 total pins) fought past Hawaii Baptist (8,039) and Campbell (8,029) for the boys’ title. The Chargers’ Nicholas Azumi pocketed the individual crown with a total pinfall of 1,905 in 10 games.
Pearl City (7,790) ran away from Hawaii Baptist (7,483) and Sacred Hearts (7,421) to capture the girls’ team title. The Chargers’ Chelsi Morishige (1,747) claimed the girls individual crown.
Waiakea’s Prayse Chung (1,621) was the highest Big Island Interscholastic Federation boys finisher in 17th place, and had a high game of 233. Konawaena’s Madison Staup (1,517) was the highest Big Island girls finisher in 17th. BIIF champion Konawaena finished ninth in the boys team standings. BIIF champion Waiakea placed sixth in the girls team standings and Hilo was seventh.
