On Oct. 19, a group of 14 members and friends of the Pahoa Sunset Rotary Club volunteered to water 200 recently planted and endangered Silversword plants and pull invasive fireweed at the 9,500-foot elevation of Mauna Kea.
Following this, they enjoyed a meal at Hale Pohaku as the sun set over the mountainside. They then attended the monthly Hawaiian cultural presentation. The evening ended with stargazing and a presentation about the fall sky.
