Shark attack closes south Maui beach
KIHEI, Maui (AP) — A shark attack has closed a south Maui beach.
County officials say a shark bit a female in the upper torso Wednesday at Ulua Beach. She was about 30 feet from shore in about 10 feet of water at the time. Additional details about the victim or her condition were not immediately available.
Signs have been posted warning people to stay out of the water.
State and county officials closed the area a mile in both directions, from Polo Beach to the area in front of the Mana Kai Maui Resort.
Officials will evaluate whether the beach can re-open Thursday.
