Everyone is invited to experience the fun and excitement of a UK Agility International, or UKI, dog agility trial at the Kukini Dog Agility training facility in Mountain View on Saturday and Sunday, Aug 3-4. Each day’s first run will start at 9 a.m., and activities on both days will go until mid to late afternoon. Admission is free.
“Dog Agility is a sport where handlers guide their dogs through a series of obstacles, competing for speed and accuracy,” said spokeswoman Tara Frazier, vice president of Kukini Dog Agility. “Agility is becoming popular all over the world as a great way for humans and dogs to work together, bond and — most importantly — have fun.”
The trial will be judged by Heather Kaluza, and event coordinators will award ribbons for qualifying rounds, first-place runs and titles. Each day will include two standard agility runs, as well as competitive games such as Snakes & Ladders, Snooker, Gamblers and more.
“Human spectators are welcome, but competing dogs only, please,” said Frazier. “There’s plenty of space in our large, covered, ring-side arena. Some bleacher seating and chairs are available, and guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs for maximum comfort. Food and beverages are not available on site, so please bring a lunch and beverages if you plan to spend the day. Parking and restroom facilities are provided.”
The Kukini Dog Agility facility is at 16-1208 Road 1 in Hawaiian Acres in Mountain View. For a map and detailed directions, please visit www.kukinidogagility.com/Kukini/The_Facility.html. For more information about UKI Agility International, please visit www.ukagilityinternational.com.
UK Agility International is run by Greg and Laura Derrett, two internationally recognised and respected competitors, who started their organization in the United Kingdom. After years of inquiries from agility competitors in North America “about the possibility of bringing UK Agility across the pond,” several years ago, they did.
“As trainers we understand the need for quality trials, matches and events that encourage excellence in competition,” said the couple.
“As an agility organization, what we have to offer is unique. Our aim is to continually strive for the betterment of agility competition and training for all dogs. We also aim to provide trials at which all competitors — whether they are weekend ‘just-wanna-have-fun-with-my-dog’ enthusiasts or diehard professional agility competitors — are catered to,” said the Derretts.
