A 49-year-old Leilani Estates man accused of shooting his landlord’s son in the chest with a spear gun has pleaded not guilty to attempted second-degree murder.
On Tuesday, Hilo Circuit Judge Glenn Hara ordered Georg Robert Curnutt to stand trial on Oct. 28 at 8:30 a.m.
Curnutt is accused of shooting and seriously wounding 20-year-old William Sullivan on June 25 during an altercation at the Sullivans’ Leilani Avenue property. The spear punctured the pericardium, the membrane that protects the heart.
Sullivan is recovering from his wound.
Curnutt remains in custody at Hawaii Community Correctional Center in lieu of $500,000 bail.
