The unanticipated expense will cost Oahu taxpayers about 36 percent more than anticipated.
HPD officers have been getting a $1 per hour as a standard of conduct differential. It will increase about $1 every year for four years. Officers who must carry a firearm 24 hours a day will get a new firearm maintenance annual allowance of $500.
The total contract package comes to about $200 million.
HPD recruits now earn about $51,000 per year. The new agreement will increase the base salary for recruits to nearly $60,000 by 2017.
