Lt. Gov. Shan Tsutsui — in his role as acting governor in the absence of Gov. Neil Abercrombie, who is on business in Taiwan through Friday — signed a pair of bills on Tuesday that appropriate funds for programs impacting Hilo and Hawaii Island.
House Bill 417 appropriates $1.8 million for the interdisciplinary Hawaii Health Systems Corp. Primary Care Training Program at Hilo Medical Center.
Meanwhile, Senate Bill 1221 appropriates $100,000 for the development of an international flight training center at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawaii Community College.
“These investments in higher education create a pipeline that addresses the future needs in the aeronautical and health industries,” Tsutsui said. “They will also enhance the higher education opportunities in Hilo and Hawaii.”
