Like many of her peers, Siemann’s photographic journey started with a 35mm camera. Eventually she discovered a passion for the black and white process. Over the years she produced distinct prints, she honed her darkroom skills, yet she still struggled with finding her own space – her own voice.
Eventually this led Siemann to ask why not use the paper itself to form the three-dimensional pieces — abstract sculptures created from photographic prints? Her images are then molded by means of a wet-to-dry shaping process. When each of the individual forms is complete, she orchestrates their placement in order to convey her emotions driving the conceptualized piece.
Douglas’s art has been on a transformative journey. He started out as a photographer and has migrated into sculpture and painting. His goal was to document more metaphorical and abstract visions. His work has been displayed both here and on the mainland.
