HONOLULU (AP) — Flags in Hawaii will fly at half-staff to honor an airman from Kailua who was killed when his aircraft crashed in Afghanistan.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie ordered the national flag and state flag at all state offices and agencies and the Hawaii National Guard be flown at half-staff on Saturday.
Air Force Capt. Reid Nishizuka was the pilot of an aircraft that crashed last month near Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan, killing him and three other airmen.
The Honolulu-born 30-year-old was serving in the 427th Reconnaissance Squadron, based at Beale Air Force Base in Northern California.
Abercrombie says the people of Hawaii are proud of his selflessness and his commitment to defending freedom so far from home.
Burial is scheduled for Monday at the National Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
