Four students from the Computer Science Course at the University of Hawaii at Hilo are finalists in the Microsoft’s Imagine Cup Competition to be held in Silicon Valley, Calif., next week.
Kayton Summers, Ryder Donahue, Mike Purvis, and Wallace Hamada, are in the top 10 from a nationwide competition. The winner will go to St. Petersburg, Russia, to represent the United States in the worldwide competition.
This is a synopsis of the program they developed: Help Me Help — The team developed an application that aides the community in times of need by utilizing the smartphone’s camera and location capabilities to get images and locations of hazards as they are introduced.
“I think we should be proud of these young men, and be proud of our university,” said spokesman Robert Summers. The winner of the competition will be announced on Monday, May 13.
