Baby is found on Oahu beach
HONOLULU (AP) — Police believe a baby found on an Oahu beach was abandoned.
Police spokeswoman Michelle Yu says a woman parked at a beach late Sunday heard several people screaming. A few minutes later the screaming stopped, and the woman heard a baby crying.
She walked toward the ocean and saw an infant on the sand.
Yu says the woman took the baby to a hospital. Yu didn’t have any information on the age or gender of the child. Police are investigating the case as endangering the welfare of a minor and child abandonment.
The baby was found at Sandy Beach in east Honolulu.
Golfer shooting suspect charged
WAILUKU, Maui (AP) — A 59-year-old man accused of firing at golfers and a police officer with a pellet rifle has been arrested and charged.
A grand jury on Friday indicted Alan Engling on 20 charges for allegedly shooting at golfers at the Maui Country Club and a police officer last week. He was arrested Saturday.
Engling is charged with 11 counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, seven counts of second-degree assault and one count each of first-degree assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
Engling is accused of shooting at seven golfers on April 21. One golfer suffered injuries to his upper right arm. He also is accused of shooting an officer in the chest.
Man seriously hurt at waterfall
HONOLULU (AP) — The Honolulu Fire Department says a man was seriously hurt after either jumping or falling from a waterfall at Kalihi Valley trail on Oahu.
The incident happened around 8:30 Sunday morning at Naohia Falls, also known as Ice Pond.
The fire department says the victim tumbled down the falls and lost consciousness. His two friends pulled him out of the water and performed CPR. By the time rescuers arrived, the man had regained consciousness. He was taken to an area hospital to be treated for traumatic injuries.
Search continues for British man in Pacific Ocean
HONOLULU (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard and Navy continue to search a remote area in the middle of the Pacific Ocean for a British man who fell overboard from a troubled sailboat.
United Kingdom officials reported to the U.S. Coast Guard in Hawaii on Saturday night that 38-year-old Luke Stinson fell from the vessel. Coast Guard Petty Officer Eric Chandler says a woman remained aboard and was later rescued. The Navy diverted warship USS Peleliu to help search for Stinson.
The search continued Monday, with Navy helicopters and Coast Guard planes taking turns and resting on Midway Atoll.
Meanwhile, the sailboat is on its own on the ocean because the warship has no way to secure it. Navy crewmembers put a tracking device on the sailboat and turned on its navigation lights.
