Henry Nakamoto, president of the Waiakea High School Foundation, has announced the addition of two new directors, Mitchell Dodo and Shelly Ogata, to the WHS Foundation Board of Directors.
“Their willingness to join the WHS Foundation Board comes at a critical time in our history,” said Nakamoto. “We can use their talents as we seek to raise funds for projects, plus build the endowment.”
The Waiakea High School Foundation was established in October 2004 as a public charitable organization to support Waiakea High School.
This year, the foundation is creating a website, www.Waiakeahsfoundation.org, plus working on a two-prong fundraising effort for 2013-2014, with a goal of raising $42,000.
Of this amount, $17,000 will help continue the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program at Waiakea High School, with $25,000 going to build the Endowment Fund.
The Na Mea Kupaianaha O Waiakea project, “All that is Extraordinary and Wonderful at Waiakea High School,” was instrumental in beginning an endowment for the Waiakea High School. Thus far, the project has raised over $50,000 for the foundation.
Under the leadership of director Dale Olive and the WHS Robotics, the foundation is sponsoring a Robotics Competition at Prince Kuhio Plaza on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entry fees are $250, or $300 per team (if robot is kept).
