A grand time was had by all at the 102nd Hilo Boy Scout Makahiki on Saturday, April 13, at Edith Kanaka‘ole Stadium. Booths by various packs and troops offered games and information challenges. Boy Scout units cooked up a feast for judges and visitors, alike, using outdoorsman techniques employing hot fires and cast iron cookware. A climbing rock wall and jumping castle kept the kids occupied and winners were determined in traditional annual scouting contests. Here, Lt. Thomas Shopay III of the Hawaii Police Department Special Response Team poses with eager Cub Scouts at the rear of the HPD Tactical Response Vehicle. The boys got to go inside the specially equipped mobile unit and learn about the important work done by the teams. At Makahiki game and information booths were available to all comers — scouters and families alike.
