Hilo Toastmasters sponsor new club at UHH

Are you like millions of people worldwide who fear speaking in public more than dying? Do you need to excel at job interviews, give powerful business presentations, or persuade others with your speaking?

To meet growing community interest in building public speaking and leadership skills, Hilo Toastmasters Club No. 248 is sponsoring the formation of a new Toastmasters club at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy.

This open club will accept anyone in the community over the age of 18 and is not limited to those connected with the Pharmacy College. A “demonstration meeting” will be held on Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in Room LPLH2 (Classroom 2 at the College of Pharmacy modular buildings), located at 722 S. A ‘Ohoku St. on the UHH campus. This meeting will showcase how an actual Toastmasters meeting is conducted. Members from Hilo Toastmasters will fill the various roles and answer questions. “We are so excited to see this new College of Pharmacy club form. We’re hopeful that they will offer the benefits of Toastmasters to a greater part of the community, since the new club will meet at different hours from our own Hilo Club meetings,” said Kathy Emery, Toastmasters Area 12 governor. Hilo Club President N.J. Moses added, “Our Hilo club has been very successful, and we want to leverage that success with this new club.”

Hilo Toastmasters Club No. 248 has achieved “President’s Distinguished” club status, meeting 10 out of 10 yearly organizational goals. Of 66 Toastmasters International clubs in Hawaii, only one other club had met this high standard by April 1. With a record 44 members, the Hilo club is thriving. Hilo Toastmasters meets every Tuesday at 12:10 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Cross, 440 West Lanikaula St. in Hilo. Visitors are welcome to come and learn more about the program.
