Keeping tradition alive

Healani’s Hula Halau and Music Academy of Kapaa, Kauai, under the direction of kumu hula Beverly Healani Sun Lan Apana Muraoka, performs a group kahiko on Friday night during the Merrie Monarch Festival at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Mutlipurpose Stadium. Twenty-nine wahine and kane halau are competing this weekend. The festival contines tonight with the ‘auana competition.
