A Hilo grand jury has indicted a convicted sex offender for failing to update his registration information.
The three-count indictment dated Wednesday accuses 48-year-old Hans E. Britton of failing to report his residence to the police chief yearly between Dec. 13, 2010, and Jan. 13, 2013, failure to notify the state attorney general of an address change between July 2007 and July 2010, and failing to mail verification of registration form to the state attorney general between October 2009 and July 2011.
All three alleged offenses are Class C felonies punishable by up to five years imprisonment.
Britton, whose last known address is in Hilo, was convicted of third-degree sexual assault in 1996.
According to the state sex offender registry, Britton also goes by “Hans Schalk” and “Mad Jack.”
