The volunteers at Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary will host a special “ShamPooch” event the day before St. Patrick’s Day from 9 a.m. to noon at the Eagles Club, across from the Hawaii Island Humane Society in Keaau.
“Come and join in this sudsy event on Saturday, March 16, to benefit our sanctuary,” said a Rainbow Friends spokesman.
The fun St. Patty’s “ShamPooch” will include doggy washing, nail trimming and “bling bling” for your favorite pet by Shear Magic as well as doggy games, a photo shoot with your canine companion, and treats and people prizes.
The cost for shampooing ranges from $5- $10 — for dogs sized small to extra large — with photos and nail trims just $5 each.
The beneficiary, Rainbow Friends Animal Sanctuary, is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, no-kill sanctuary located in Kurtistown that cares for and finds homes for abused, neglected or homeless animals.
On a daily basis, approximately 325 dogs and cats receive nutrition, veterinary care, grooming and lots of love through a core of giving volunteers under the direction of Mary Rose Krijgsman, founder and president of the sanctuary. Volunteers also are invited to assist with the “ShamPooch” event. For more information, please call 990-6105.
