A $1.5 million road resurfacing of Kilauea Avenue from Ponahawai Street to Pauahi Street with drainage improvements at the corner of Kukuau Street and Kilauea is under way. The county anticipates completion prior to the start of the Merrie Monarch Festival, the world’s largest hula festival, at the end of March.
Two lanes of traffic one lane in each direction are provided between the construction hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday- Friday. Contractors are working along both sides of Kilauea. Motorists should expect delays or consider using alternate routes.
Construction will begin on the makai side of Kilauea on Monday, Jan. 7, and on-street parking will be removed. Construction on the makai side of the road is scheduled to be completed in three to four days, weather permitting.
