Wailoa Art & Cultural Center’s New Year’s exhibit in the Fountain Gallery will present “Sidewalk Series,” the innovative photography of Liz Ambrose, Jan. 4-24, with an opening reception for the artist on Friday, from 5 to 7 p.m.
In 1986, Ambrose established her roots in Hilo after living abroad much of her life. She graduated from the University of Hawaii at Hilo with a Fine Arts Degree and is currently pursuing an interest in photography which has captivated her from an early age.
“Searching for a new direction for my life, I spent a lot of time walking and looking down at the sidewalks and streets of Hilo. I found beauty in ordinary things that you see every day without really looking at them; 99 percent of these images were taken in the small downtown area of Hilo,” said Ambrose, who also is a printmaker and textile designer.
Wailoa Art & Cultural Center is a Division of State Parks, Department of Land and Natural Resources. It is free and opened to the public Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday from noon to 4:30 p.m. and closed on Saturdays, Sundays and state holidays.
