Lia Galdeira scored a Washington State women’s basketball single-game freshman record 33 points Saturday in the Cougars’ season opening 87-83 double-overtime loss at Minnesota.
Galdeira, who along with Dawnyelle Awa led Konawaena’s girls basketball to three Hawaii High School Athletic Association Division I titles in the past four years, added five steals, three rebounds and three assists. She went 12-of-27 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line.
Awa had four points and three assists coming off the bench.
Washington State’s Nikki Mohr (1983) and Jazmine Perkins (2008) shared the previous Cougars’ single-game freshman record of 28 points.
