Guitars of stars on display in Nashville
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Legendary guitars will be on display at the Tennessee State Museum.
The exhibit, called “The Guitar: An American Love Story,” opens Thursday.
Among instruments on loan for the show are a guitar played by Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton’s 1958 Gibson Explorer and singing cowboy star Roy Roger’s OM-45 Deluxe guitar made by C.F. Martin & Co., circa 1930. There will be more than 1,560 guitars in all.
A 150-page catalog about the collection is on sale in the museum bookstore, and there are viewing stations where visitors can see and hear the instruments being played by great musicians.
There is no admission charge at the museum in the Polk Cultural Center near the state Capitol in Nashville.
Non-stop buses from L.A. to Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (AP) — It’s getting even easier to get between Las Vegas and Los Angeles without a car.
Greyhound announced it’s launching non-stop bus service between the two cities starting Wednesday.
The company will offer five round trips daily, with two additional round trips on Fridays and Sundays to accommodate weekend visitors. Fares range from $25 to $67.50 one way, with a limited number of tickets available for $1.
The route is the latest for Greyhound Express, which is a premium service from the bus company and features reserved seating, free wireless Internet and extra legroom.
Express routes also connect to the company’s network of 3,800 stations throughout North America.
Most roads closing in Yellowstone park
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — The National Park Service says most roads in Yellowstone National Park closed for the season. Monday.
The agency closes roads to most of the park’s popular tourist destinations so workers can prepare the roads for commercially guided snowmobile and snow coach travel, which starts Dec. 15. The road in the northern part of the park that travels from Gardiner, through Mammoth Hot Springs, Tower Junction and Lamar Valley to Cooke City remains open to wheeled vehicles all year.
The agency says the Yellowstone General Store, Post Office, medical clinic, campground and Albright Visitor Center at Mammoth Hot Springs remain open all year.
Monarch butterfly reaches Tex. on plane
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A lagging monarch butterfly has made the trip from Albany, N.Y., to Texas with help from a commercial plane and an insect lover.
Passenger Maraleen Manos-Jones on Monday carefully transported the butterfly on a Southwest Airlines flight to San Antonio. She kept the delicate butterfly in a padded, ice-cooled package before its release at the San Antonio Botanical Garden.
Manos-Jones first spotted the female butterfly in late September when it was still mid-metamorphosis at the gardens of her Shokan, Ulster County, home.
Manos-Jones realized that by Oct. 1 it was too cold for the newly emerged monarch to head south on its own to winter in Mexico. She contacted Dallas-based Southwest, which agreed to fly Manos-Jones and the butterfly to San Antonio for free.
