St. Joseph Elementary School is once again going to participate in the Take a Veteran to School Program sponsored by the History Channel.
“We are looking for veterans, especially students’ family members and friends, who would be willing and able to volunteer to visit with our children in their classes and talk story about their military experiences,” said Jan Malinowski, SJS Elementary School librarian. “We will hold our event on Friday, Nov. 9, from about 10:30 a.m. to noon, and it will include sharing lunch with the kids in the cafeteria after the talk-story time.
“As our school ranges from kindergarten to sixth grade, the level of the conversation will vary greatly based on the ages of the children involved, so volunteers should be aware of that and think about what age children they would feel comfortable talking to,” she said.
Any veterans willing to come to visit St. Joseph School and talk to students are invited to contact Malinowski at jmalinowski@sjshilo.org or call the school at 935-4935.
